FAQ – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED #5: HOW IS AERALIS REVOLUTIONISING CERTIFICATION AND HOW WILL IT GET CERTIFIED IN TIME?

9 October 2025

Certifying new or upgraded aircraft is traditionally costly, complex and slow. These challenges can delay frontline capability, increase safety risks and reduce flying hours

AERALIS is transforming this process. By leveraging the certification baseline and harnessing data through its digital enterprise platform, AERSIDE® (AERALIS Smart Integrated Digital Enterprise), AERALIS offers a simplified, assured approach to both military and civil certification and through-life management that rationalises the process and maximises aircraft availability without compromising safety.

Civil Certification first

AERALIS’s approach is to use equivalence in civil and military certification standards. Many requirements overlap, and where specific deltas exist, they’ll be integrated into the flight test programme.

This approach enables AERALIS to secure a baseline Civil Type Certificate, as well as delivering full traceability to military certification, with Civil certification unlocking key benefits

① Cross-border mobility – easier movement between international allied training areas.

Streamlined approvals – internationally recognised certification and full evidence traceability via AERSIDE® is used to streamline elevation to customer nations’ military type certification

Commercial availability – AERALIS’s ‘air force-on-demand’ model supports high availability and common maintenance across all variants such as Advanced Jet Trainer and Display, all built on a Common Core Fuselage (CCF).

Digital Certification – Improving efficiency and saving time

AERALIS is a digital-first programme, integrating design, engineering, simulation, manufacture, operations, upgrades and disposal within AERSIDE®. Using this digital approach, AERALIS can track each aircraft variant’s exact physical and software configuration, meaning rapid, assured digital certification for all variants in the fleet.

Compliance evidence – both digital and physical – is delivered in tailored formats to regulators, improving speed, clarity and transparency. This collaborative process is embedded from the outset of the programme, streamlining certification for each variant and significantly reducing the time required when compared to industry standards.

AERALIS’s Project Helix not only proved this concept, but demonstrated how digital certification streamlines compliance, reduces admin burden, and accelerates time-to-service without compromising safety. Both UK civil and military regulators attended the AERALIS full live demonstration, recognising and acknowledging the benefits this approach will bring.

AERALIS’s pioneering work in this area has the potential to revolutionise certification for both civil and military aircraft. An exportable British innovation delivering cost savings, operational flexibility and faster realisation of new capability for air forces and operators around the world.
