Andrew Snowden MP at Westminster Hall

Westminster Hall debate on Typhoon Sovereign Capability

19 November 2025

The Westminster Hall debate on Typhoon Sovereign Capability last week raised an important question for the UK: how do we sustain and evolve the sovereign skills that allow us to design, build and test aircraft nationally?

As Andrew Snowden MP noted, “We should count ourselves incredibly lucky as a country that we are more secure for being able to produce our own fighter jets. We should do everything at every opportunity to invest in and continue to develop and improve that capability.”

Through the development of a new British-designed light jet, the first in more than 50 years, AERALIS will contribute to this national endeavour by strengthening the aerospace skills base, increasing industrial resilience, and generating high-value and highly skilled employment across the UK.

By combining established expertise with new approaches to design and certification, AERALIS is aligned with defence reform priorities to grow domestic capability and strengthen the national skills base.
