How would AERALIS deliver for the UK economy?

9 January 2026

AERALIS is the only truly British-designed and built new light jet aircraft on the table for replacing Hawk.  No other programme offers the same blend of sovereignty, low-cost acquisition, operational cost-savings, socio-economic benefit and revenue generation for the UK:

Development & Manufacture:

AERALIS is already delivering economic value through the support of RAF and MOD contracts to develop PYRAMID Open Avionics Architecture and Digital Enterprise knowledge & know-how that will reduce the cost of both future avionics systems and the certification of complex air systems.

In terms of aircraft development, AERALIS has and will cost the UK taxpayer nothing – our business model is to independently and proactively finance feasibility studies, engineering, design, wind tunnel testing, synthetic flight testing, supply chain organisation – costs that would traditionally be borne by the government – to ensure our programme develops fast and along the best commercial lines, with shareholders and lenders benefiting from the long-term growth of a strategic defence programme.

AERALIS’s core delivery partners, AERTEAM,TM are supported by an enterprise of suppliers from Scotland to Southampton, not only distributing economic benefit the length of the UK but reducing the risks of delay and cost overruns that commonly beset traditional prime-led programmes.

When considering jobs alone, AERALIS predicts that more than 4,000 jobs will be created across the UK.

Acquisition & Operations:

AERALIS forecasts through-life cost savings of up to 60% compared to traditional advanced jet trainers across a 25-year operating life – savings that could be reallocated to bolstering the UK’s defence. Given AERALIS is a modular aircraft that can also be reconfigured to uncrewed variants, the programme’s operational value has the potential to be significantly extended, further increasing the UK’s return on investment.Acquisition & Operations:

Exports:

AERALIS’s ability to be reconfigured to meet the needs of different export markets demonstrates how we have been designing with global export markets in mind from the start, with a large number of allied air forces already considering their next platform for training and adjacent roles.

With a launch market of Advanced Jet Trainer, Aggressor, Companion and Display aircraft needed across Europe, in particular to ensure that NATO’s fleet of F35s are supported from 2030, this represents a £15Bn addressable market in the next five years.

Summary:

AERALIS will incur no upfront taxpayer spend, while earning the UK significant export revenues; revitalise the UK aerospace manufacturing sector by generating 4,000 high-value jobs, distributed across the length of the UK; and save the MOD up to 60% in through-life operating costs.

If the UK is serious about choosing the aircraft that is both right for its pilots and right for the country, the choice is clear: it’s AERALIS.
